ANKARA - HEDEP Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan announced that they determined the new abbreviation name of their party as DEM Party. Ayşegül said, “DEM also describes us with the meanings of breath, word, moment and time. Our new name expresses the spirit of a new time, a new moment of beginning and the coming to life of a new promise. "DEM is the era, DEM is this time."

People's Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP) Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan made statements about the new abbreviation name of their party and the decisions taken at the press conference held at the party's headquarters building.

'A new unlawful move'

Ayşegül said that they held an enthusiastic congress at Ankara Atatürk Sports Hall on October 15 and that they changed their name for compulsory reasons at the congress, and noted that they determined their party name as People's Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP). He reminded that after completing the application process and all preparations for the amendments they made at the congress, the Supreme Court of Appeals Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor objected to the short name of their party, HEDEP. Ayşegül said, “Actually, there is no need to remind the reason, and it is useful to repeat it to make a note in history. The name HEDEP resembles HADEP and can even be confused with it. We were informed by the political bureau of the Supreme Court of Appeals that although it is not the same as the Supreme Court's statement, it has been concluded that it is possible to confuse both political parties with each other, which will cause confusion. However, HADEP was closed, there was no such party, and after it was closed, Turkey was convicted by the ECHR due to this decision. In fact, the reason is obvious; you will appreciate that it was done to confront us with a new judicial setback before the local elections, and that it was a new unlawful move."

Pointing out that they are not without options against obstacles and conspiracies, Ayşegül noted that the process they went through at heavy costs with the performance, experience and experience demonstrated by the 30-year history of at least democratic political struggle is stable. Ayşegül said, “We had to establish dozens of new parties in 30 years, but we succeeded every time. We managed to leave a mark in our history of struggle. We have succeeded in leading the history of Turkey's struggle for democracy, freedom, justice and peace. Therefore, we are not without options. We have not and will not run out of options, but even though they knew this, they wanted to trouble us with such a legal and judicial obstacle. They won't succeed again. Apart from this, no changes have been made in our statute and currently, both the decisions of the meeting we held regarding this change and our new name, DEM Party, have reached the Supreme Court Office. DEM Party, as it is known today, is, to put it clearly and broadly, the People's Equality and Democracy Party, and there is no change here. The essence and essence of our party are the people.”
