ISTANBUL - Women speaking about the process stated that society must actively support the process and called on the state to take the necessary steps.
As the Peace and Democratic Society Process initiated by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan enters its seventh month, calls for peace are rising from different segments of society. Stating that the destruction caused by the war can only be remedied by lasting peace, the women emphasized that the state must take action immediately.
Women living in Istanbul also shared their views on the process and expressed their desire for peace.
‘We must actively support the process’
Songül Çiçek, who says she wants peace, said, “I view the process positively. Because Turkey is not going in a good direction. Therefore, as a society, we need to actively support the process and think positively. Peace processes always take a long time, because there are also those who are not in favor of peace. Fighting and war benefit no one. We need to keep the scales balanced."
'We want peace that includes society’
Ülkü Gülersen also emphasized the need for peace, saying that the human rights violations and lawlessness that have occurred can only be resolved through peace. Ülkü Gülersen said, "I want a clean Turkey. I am in favor of peace. We want peace that takes society's demands into account. Peace is difficult to define. Peace begins at home. We need to raise our children well. Right now, 15- and 16-year-old children have knives in their pockets. What kind of peace is this? Every individual needs to be educated. Politics needs to be fixed. Politics plays an important role in peace."
‘The war must end’
Güler Karapınar, who says that ending wars is essential for the peace of society as a whole, especially women and children, said, “The war must end. I cannot bear the tears of women and children. The anger people feel towards each other must end. The state has a great responsibility to ensure peace. As a society, we must be on the side that wants and demands peace."
‘Women want peace’
Noting that women are most affected by war, Zuhal Karakaya said, "We are not speaking out enough against war. We must protect ourselves and our children from war. There should be peace everywhere. What is this hatred and resentment for? There should be no deaths. We want peace, not war."
‘The necessary steps must be taken’
Sıdıka Yılmaz, who said that peace would be very good for the people, added, “I really want peace. The state must take steps towards peace.”
Sema Çetin, who emphasized that peace is necessary for the country's tranquility, said, “Peace is also necessary in homes and families. Peace is necessary for tranquility and happiness. Peace is necessary for the whole world. Turkey must take this process seriously. It must take the necessary steps.”
