Frederike Geerdink: As long as Mr. Ocalan is isolated the Kurds are isolated 2024-10-24 13:40:18     ANKARA - Dutch journalist Frederike Geerdink, commenting on the recent debates on the Kurdish question, said: ‘There is no Kurdish freedom without Mr.Ocalan freedom. As long as Mr. Ocalan is isolated the Kurds are isolated.’    With the recent discourses of the government on the Kurdish question and the ongoing debate process following MHP Chairman Devlet Bahceli's speech at the Parliamentary Group Meeting, attacks on Rojava and Southern Kurdistan have been continuing since last night. As the isolation of PKK Leader Abdullah Ocalan entered its 44th month, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Riha MP Omer Ocalan travelled to İmralı yesterday and met with Abdullah Ocalan.    Regarding the details of the meeting, Omer stated that Abdullah Ocalan was in good health and continued as follows: ‘Isolation continues. If conditions arise, I have the theoretical and practical power to move this process from the grounds of conflict and violence to the legal and political grounds.’   Frederike Geerdink, a Dutch journalist working on Kurdistan, emphasised the need to be cautious about the developments and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's discourse, and pointed out that the ‘liquidation’ of the PKK is a discourse that should be emphasised.    ‘It's stupid to take him seriously’   Frederike continued, “I think people only hear that Devlet Bahceli said Mr. Ocalan should speak in parliament, not that he added that Mr. Ocalan must say that the PKK is dismantled and terrorism stopped. Bahceli is a clown and has never shown any comprehension of what the Kurdish issue is. It's stupid to take him seriously.”   ‘Don't trust Erdogan either’   Frederike emphasised that freedom will not come as long as the isolation continues. Frederike, “The isolation of Mr. Ocalan finally needs to be broken. There is no Kurdish freedom without Mr.Ocalan freedom. As long as Mr. Ocalan is isolated, the Kurds are isolated. I don't trust Erdogan either, of course. His advisor also said a process won't be tried again because it didn't lead to results the previous time either. Erdogan knows what is necessary and he can't do it, because he's not a statesman thinking of the future of the country but just a power politician thinking of his own future.”
