They are determined to organise a National Conference 2025-04-07 10:54:33     Derya Ren   RIHA - Commenting on the Kurdish Women's Conference held recently, TEV-DEM Co-Chair Remziya Mihemed emphasised the unity of women and stated that the work for the National Kurdish Women's Conference continues.   Under the leadership of Kurdish women in Rojava, the 1st Kurdish Women's Conference was held recently with the slogan ‘Kurdish National Unity is Realised under the Leadership of Kurdish Women’. 300 delegates took part in the conference, which drew attention to national unity, and an 11-point final declaration was published at the end of the conference.   Remziya Mihemed, Co-Chair of the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM), made evaluations to JINNEWS regarding the conference and the final declaration of the conference.   Emphasis on women's unity   Remziya Mihemed drew attention to the importance of the 1st Kurdish Women's Conference and said that women paid a great price during the Rojava Revolution. Remziya Mihemed said, "Women fought and continue to fight against both the regime and the feudal structure. At the same time, women took part in the revolutionary process with a great role and responsibility. In any problem experienced in the society, women are primarily affected. Therefore, every congress or conference organised by women is of great importance. With the unity of women, women will carry out different activities."   Women are making a note in history   Remziya Mihemed underlined that Syria has entered a new era with the fall of the Baath regime and said, "As the Autonomous Administration, we are struggling for the democratic self-government of the people. We have not seen anything good that the interim government established in Damascus has done for the people so far. We see the massacres in the coastal cities. There is not a single word about women's rights in the new constitution being prepared. Because of this, women have great responsibilities. Women must have 50 per cent representation in the new system to be built. With the Autonomous Administration, it has been seen that women can take part in all areas of life. There is a system created by women regarding the defence power and this system can be an example for the whole world."   The importance of women's defence power   Remziya Mihemed added that in many countries, the quota for women to take part in institutions and organisations is 10 or 20 percent, and said, "This is not acceptable. Because we emphasise that women should have 50 percent representation in society, institutions and organisations. Women are the society itself; therefore, they are the main subject that brings society into existence. The main topic of the conference was the position of women in the new Syria. It was important that the defence force was discussed at the conference. Because we are witnessing attacks against different identities, especially women, in the country. It is essential for women to develop their defence power."   Migration situation in Syria   Remziya Mihemed stated that there was a lot of migration due to the attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria and Syrian territory in general, and continued as follows "There has been a lot of migration even within Syria itself. At the same time, thousands of people went to European countries or countries neighbouring Syria. After the departure of the Baath regime and the establishment of the new government, there was a call to the people. However, these returns are very troublesome. Because the security of the returns, the liberation of the occupied areas and the cessation of the attacks must stop as soon as possible.   The philosophy of ‘Jin jiyan azadi’   In coastal cities, since women's original fields of work are not very strong, their areas of organisation are also limited. As a result, women are constantly subjected to attacks and obstructions. We, as North and East Syrian women, are ready to share our experience with them. The Baath regime's attacks against the Autonomous Administration were many. We also had problems in reaching women, but the united and organised status of women strengthened the women's struggle. We, as those who lead the women's struggle in Northern and Eastern Syria, are ready to share our experiences and the philosophy of ‘jin jiyan azadî’ with all women living in Syria. Because today the slogan ‘jin jiyan azadî’ is an example to the world in terms of women's freedom. If women organise themselves in line with this philosophy, it will pave the way for many things."   ‘Women are leading the revolution’   Remziya Mihemed stated that the Kurdish Women's Conference is a gift for the Rojava Revolution, "One of the decisions we took at the conference is to organise the National Kurdish Women's Conference in the coming period. This work we will do has an important place in the women's revolution. The struggle of women stands in a position to lead the revolution. Women's work has always been one of the cornerstones of social work."
