Writer Fatma Izol: I am grateful for the greeting from İmralı 2025-04-18 13:35:06   Derya Ren    RIHA - Fatma İzol, author of the book "Kurds from Goddesshood to Godhood", stated that her work is based on a democratic, ecological and women's liberationist paradigm. Fatma İzol stated that Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan sent greetings to her during the Eid meeting held in İmralı Prison. ‘I am grateful to him for the greeting he sent,’ she said.   On 15 February 1999, as a result of an international conspiracy, Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan was kidnapped and brought to Turkey. Since then, he has been held under aggravated isolation conditions in Imrali High Security Closed Prison. Despite these conditions of absolute isolation, Abdullah Öcalan continues his resistance and reveals that an alternative life is possible with the ecological, democratic and women's libertarian paradigm he has developed.   This paradigm gives a new direction not only to the political sphere but also to women's history, gender relations and freedom struggles. Inspired by this approach that re-questions the place of women in history and makes them visible, Fatma İzol's book ‘Kurds from Goddesshood to Godhood’ was published last year by Aram Publishing House. Fatma İzol, who continues her women-oriented narration of history within the framework of Abdullah Öcalan's paradigms, also stated that Abdullah Öcalan sent greetings to her through Mehmet Öcalan and Ömer Öcalan during the Imrali holiday meeting held on 31 March.   Women's history research   Fatma İzol, describing the process of taking part in the women's struggle, said that she was arrested within the scope of the KCK case in 2012. Fatma İzol stated that she described the period she spent in prison as a university education and said, "Our perspective on life was changing a lot. For example, when I read Mr Abdullah Öcalan's books, I realised how much he values women. And while I was carrying out my work, I observed that there was a lack of work on women. I started to think from my own front that there should be work on women. I would like to share the women's work I have done with Mr Abdullah Öcalan, I wrote a letter to him. And the letters I sent were seen positively by Mr Abdullah Öcalan and he started to send me greetings. He found my work valuable. And it was a great chance and labour that I had such an opportunity with him."   The greetings of the Kurdish People's Leader   Recalling the position of women in history, Fatma İzol said, "I have benefited from many sources while I was doing my studies, from the Qur'an, the Bible, the Torah, Avesta, I read books by world-renowned writers who are interested in this subject. I read books on politics. Mr Abdullah Öcalan has very important initiatives on this subject and I have benefited from these initiatives. Especially the subject of free cohabitation gives information that opens the way for women in this subject. Mr Abdullah Öcalan received my book, and during this last family visit he sent his love and greetings. I am grateful to him for the greeting he sent. The fact that he opens the way for a woman so much, that he appreciates a woman's work so much, I think that mamoste i sereke sees this book of women's work as belonging not only to me but to all women. In other words, she sees and appreciates it as a product of the philosophy of Jin jiyan azadî and we need to continue our researches by preserving the women's line, within the philosophy of jin jiyan azadî, without any hesitation, without deviating from our path."   Determination to resist   Emphasising that she is grateful to the Kurdish People's Leader, Fatma İzol finally said the following: "If Mr Abdullah Öcalan, the philosopher of our century, encourages us to resist, we need to embrace this message. We are breaking new ground in the history of humanity. The mindset of our children will be developed under the priority of women. A system that children will create in a few years will be the system of the Jin jiyan azadî philosophy. This system will create human societies based on ecological, aesthetic, humanitarian, moral and conscientious values. This is precisely the point we need to focus on, we need to concentrate on this. I sincerely believe that when women's fluid energy is matched with this groundbreaking revolution in mentality, we will make human history."
