HAKKARİ - KESK Hakkari Women’s Council made the following call to Minister Derya Yanık regarding violence against women: "You should apologize from women and resign immediately."
Minister Derya Yanık said, "Violence against women can be tolerated during the epidemic period" last Saturday. Women’s Council, affiliated with the Confederation of Public Employees’ Trade Unions (KESK) Hakkari Branches Platform, held a press release against the rhetoric of Minister Derya Yanık. Members of the Health and Social Service Workers’ Union (SES), Education and Science Workers’ Union (Eğitim-Sen) and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Council attended the statement held in front of the KESK building.
‘Apologize from the women’
Speaking on behalf of KESK Hakkari Women’s Council, Ezgi Özkan made the following call to Minister Derya Yanık: "We are calling out to the minister from here; We women do not tolerate your understanding of violence against women, legitimation of this, and misogynistic policies! Violence against women cannot be tolerated! We do not tolerate another missing person! Instead of defending your statements, you should apologize from women and resign immediately."
‘The Ministry of Women and Equality should be established’
Saying that "Violence against women is political", Ezgi pointed out that effective policies should be developed together with women for a solution against violence and gender equality should be ensured in all areas of life. Ezgi said: "The decision to terminate the Istanbul Convention should be abandoned immediately and effectively implemented together with all its articles. The ministry that does not consider women as individuals but produces family-oriented policies should be closed, and the 'Ministry of Women and Equality' should be established, which will produce policies with women."
