DİYARBAKIR - Speaking about the fate of Gülistan Doku, who has not been heard from in Dersim since January 5, 2020, lawyer Ali Çimen stated that the incident should be resolved.
While the question of "Is the Turkey of the 90's coming back" comes to mind with the disappearances and abductions in Turkey at all times, Gülistan Doku was one of the people who disappeared during the period when the femicides increased the most. Munzur University student Gülistan Doku has been missing in Dersim since June 5, 2020. Although 511 days have passed since Gülistan's disappearance, there was no development in the investigation initiated by the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. While non-governmental organizations and Gülistan's family want the investigation to be conducted impartially, the prosecutor's office insists on "suicide".
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MP Dersim Dağ has submitted a parliamentary question to the parliament that 160 people have been kidnapped, threatened and subjected to the imposition of spying in the last one year. Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, on the other hand, ignored Gülistan, who has been missing for 511 days, in a TV program he attended recently, and claimed that there were no abductions or disappearances during his time.
‘Dam game done’
Gülistan's family lawyer, Ali Çimen, said that the family was faced with the policies of distraction and that an effective investigation was not carried out. Ali stated that in the investigation that started after the family's complaint, the public authorities told the family that Gulistan committed suicide by jumping from a bridge. Ali said: "The family continued to search for a body in the dam for a long time, after being told 'we will give you her funeral' and insisting. We call it the dam game. As you know, searches were being made in the dam on the one hand and searches were stopped on the other. Search efforts continued until the 200th day of the investigation. Searching at the dam ended three times and started again. Search efforts at this dam were based on a video analysis report held on January 5, 2020, by the public security branch where the father of the prime suspect was working. With that report, the investigating prosecutor, Gülistan, was made to believe that she had jumped off the bridge at that time. Since the investigation was viewed as a 'suicide', investigation proceedings were not carried out in the direction of 'killing people' or 'hold someone captive."
‘Even though there was evidence, no arrests were made’
Ali said that when they became involved in the investigation, they objected to the report kept by the public security department where the father of the prime suspect Zainal Abarakov worked. Ali stated that the report was scientifically refuted by the official expert report. Ali said: "The Gülistan Doku investigation was neglected from the very beginning and an effective investigation was not conducted. This investigation is a case that was not allowed to be closed as a result of the effort of the family and the pressure of women's institutions, and that an effective investigation was never carried out."
‘It was reported that Gulistan was forcibly hold’
Pointing out that the first negligence and the protection of the prime suspect took place on the night of January 4, 2020, Ali said: "A citizen reported that Gülistan was forcibly hold and put in the vehicle. It started with the illegal release of the lead suspect, who was notified, without receiving instructions from the on-duty prosecutor of the day after calling his father. Afterwards, although there was sufficient evidence about the main suspect, it was continued without even being detained or even an examination of the suspect's materials."
‘The incident should be resolved’
Ali emphasized that the investigating authorities rejected the requests for clarification of this incident. Noting that the official authorities also approached the situation reluctantly, he stated that those who tried to clarify the incident were tried to be suppressed with the threat of investigation. "Investigations have been launched against Aygül Doku and me with groundless allegations. Although this is the case, there is sufficient evidence in the Gülistan Doku investigation," he said, adding that the incident should be resolved.
