DİYARBAKIR - Announcing the May Report on the Violations of Rights Against Journalists, DFG stated that access to seven news sites, 11 websites and 123 digital media contents were blocked and reminded that there are 70 imprisoned journalists.

 

Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) has released its May Report on Rights Violations Against Journalists. In the report, it was stated that pressure devices were kept alive on journalists in May and many practices that would violate the freedom of the press were put into use.

 

In the report, it was stated that the house of a journalist who reported on corruption in municipal tenders in Osmaniye was raided by the special operations police and the journalist was beaten, and it was emphasized that the message "Do not report" was tried to be given to the press workers with such methods.

 

In the report, which pointed out that the imposition of abduction and spying was used as a method of suppression against journalists, attention was drawn to the information that Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reporter Lezgin Tekay was abducted by five people who introduced themselves as "intelligence officer" while visiting his family in Ankara.

 

‘Journalists carry the burden of truth’

 

The following statements took place in the continuation of the report: “Our colleague, who was detained for two hours, was also imposed as an agentship. We strongly condemn these events. Journalists are not your agents; They are workers who do public service and carry the burden of truth for the people. If you want to get information persistently, you can follow the news made by journalists who make true and brave reporting. For the first time recently, there has been a decrease in the number of journalists in prison. However, this decrease does not indicate that the judicial pressure on journalists has eased. The reason for the decrease in the number of imprisoned journalists is that the execution times of our colleagues have expired. Whatever the reason, the decrease in the number of journalists in prison is never enough, nor will it be. The fact that even a colleague is in prison is not something we can accept in terms of freedom of expression and thought.”

 

The report listed the violations of rights in May as follows:

* One journalist was attacked,

* Four journalists were prevented during following the news,

* An investigation has been launched against one journalist,

* A lawsuit was filed against one journalist,

* One journalist was sentenced,

* The trial of 18 journalists continued,

* One journalist was exposed to rights violations in prison,

* One newspaper was given an advertisement penalty,

* Access to seven news, 11 websites, 123 virtual media contents have been blocked,

* Four journalists were dismissed.

 

According to the report, as of May, at least 70 journalists are under arrest.
