ISTANBUL - A facial recognition device was placed on the door of the university on the 123rd day of the resistance that started after AKP’s Melih Bulu was appointed as the trustee rector of Boğaziçi University. Students reacted to this device as "Boğaziçi Prison".
The resistance against the appointment of AKP’s Melih Bulu to Boğaziçi University as the rector from outside the institution by President Tayyip Erdoğan on January 2 has been going on for 124 days. The face recognition device placed at the university gate yesterday was met with a reaction by the students and the students used the definition of "Boğaziçi Prison".
What happened?
After Melih Bulu was appointed as the trustee rector of Boğaziçi University, students started to resist by protesting the decision. Academics, who come together in the South Campus Square, turn their backs on the rectorate building every week and protest the decision.
Students were repeatedly battered and detained in protest actions, and on February 1, an indictment was filed against 97 students who were detained after the police attack in the Boğaziçi (Bosphorus University).
Finally, one of the academics who reacted to the decision on June 1, Fevzi Erçin was arbitrarily prevented from giving lectures at the summer school. Students who reacted to the situation were forcibly taken out from the school by the police and the Special Security Units (OGB) and were battered by the OGB the other day during the police blockade.
