Demand for acquittal about journalist Derya Okatan

ISTANBUL - The prosecutor demanded acquittal about journalist Derya Okatan, who was prosecuted for a news published in the agency while she was ETHA Editor in Chief.
Journalist Derya Okatan, who was prosecuted on the charge of "insulting" for a news published while she was the Editor in Chief of Etkin News Agency (ETHA), was held at the Istanbul 39th Criminal Court of First Instance in Çağlayan.
Journalist Derya did not attend the hearing, and her lawyer Mehmet Ali Koç was present.
The prosecution, which gave its opinion on the merits at the hearing, pointed to Derya's statement taken at the police station and noted that when the evidence in the file is examined, the issue should be handled within the scope of freedom of the press. For this reason, the prosecutor's office, which noted that the alleged crime was not fasten, demanded an acquittal of Derya.
Derya's lawyer, Mehmet Ali, stated that they will make their defense on the merits after the attorney's statement is presented.
The next hearing was postponed to December 16.
