ISTANBUL - Lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan applied to Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to meet with their clients.
The lawyers of Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan; Mazlum Dinç, İbrahim Bilmez, Nevroz Uysal and Serbay Köklü, applied to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to meet with their clients.
Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office imposed a six-month meeting ban on 23 September 2020, on the grounds of the "Road Map" prepared by Abdullah Öcalan in addition to his defense submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2009. After this ban, applications made by lawyers were also inconclusive and it was revealed that Abdullah Öcalan was given a new disciplinary punishment in January 2021.
Although the ban ended on March 23, neither a positive nor a negative response is given to the applications made by the lawyers.
Rezan Sarıca and Nevroz Uysal, two of Abdullah Öcalan's lawyers, last met with their clients on May 2-22, June 12-18, and August 7, 2019, after eight years.
Abdullah Öcalan was given the right to speak by phone for the first time on April 27, 2020. Abdullah Öcalan had a telephone conversation with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on March 25, after the public's concerns grew due to some of the posts on social media. Mehmet Öcalan announced that this conversation was interrupted.
