HAKKARİ - Nebahat Kırmızıtaş, mother of Abbas Kırmızıtaş, who was detained and arrested under torture in Yüksekova, told what they experienced with the words: ‘’I told the soldiers, ‘’Take the guns off my son’s head, let him breathe’. They, out of spite to me, laid my son on the ground and put three guns on his head and said, ‘We will kill him’.’’
After the explosion that occurred during the passage of an armored vehicle carrying military personnel in the village of Aşağı Ölçek (Yêkmala Jorî) in Yüksekova district of Hakkari on July 27, many villages close to the location of the explosion were raided. Many villagers were tortured and detained in the raid. One of those villagers, Abbas Kırmızıtaş, was tortured and detained in the raid on the village of Köycük (Muşan) on July 31, and was then arrested. Abbas Kırmızıtaş’s family told our agency about their experiences.
‘They held a gun to my head’
Abbas’ wife, Zehra Kırmızıtaş, said that they did not know the reason for the military raid on the village and that the soldier announced her husband's name as soon as they entered the village. Saying that Abbas went to the soldiers after the announcement and they searched the house, Zehra said: ‘’My husband is not guilty. They came in the morning and put handcuffs on my husband’s arm. They put three guns to his head. More than 40 soldiers gathered to his head. They arrested my husband. My little baby was at home. They came to the house, they searched the house. They held a gun to my head so that I wouldn't go to my husband. My son is small. He was sleeping, they were about to step on him. I said, ‘My son is sleeping there, pay attention, what is the quilt of him?’ They started shouting at me.’’
He was taken to the operation naked
Zehra explained that her husband was detained under torture with these words: ‘’They beat my husband so much that his feet couldn't hold, he was bouncing. They had made his eyes so that they were not even visible. They didn't let us see him when he was taken into custody. The soldiers took my husband and the other person who was detained with him to the operation. They had taken the two of them naked. The soldiers were saying, ‘Even if something happens, let it happen to them’.’’
‘More than 50 soldiers gathered on my son’s head’
Abbas’ mother, Nebahat Kırmızıtaş, also said that the soldiers surrounded the village at around 03:00 at night, and her son’s name was announced at 06:00 in the morning. Nebahat said: ‘’As my son went out to the soldiers, more than 50 soldiers gathered on my son’s head. They all put guns to his head and his back. I told them, ‘Don’t do it, my son is innocent’, and they fired me from there. I told the soldiers, ‘Take the guns off my son’s head, let him breathe’. They, out of spite to me, laid my son on the ground and put three guns on his head and said, ‘We will kill him’. They said, ‘Either you leave from here or we will take you away’.’’
As hours torture was done
Mother Nebahat told the torture made on her son in front of her eyes as follows: ‘’They made my son naked in front of my eyes. That’s how they beat him. After they took my son, they took him to a mountain and tortured him until 11:30. They took him to the operation naked. They were sending our children from the front, and they were walking behind them. They were saying, ‘Even if they were killed, they would die’.’’
