NEWS CENTER - Mesopotamia Women Journalists Platform (MKGP) drew attention to the 123-year-old Kurdish press tradition in its statement on the occasion of the Kurdish Journalists Day and said, "We will not leave our pens to the monopoly of the government and we will continue on our way with our claim to make the 21st century an age of women's freedom."

MKGP published a written statement on the occasion of Kurdish Journalists Day. In the statement made with the headline "Voice of the people and the truth, the Kurdish press is 123-year-old" and pointed to Kurdistan gazette, which was the first Kurdish newspaper published by Mîqdad Mîdhed Bedirxan on April 22, 1898. In the statement, which mentioned that the Kurdish press tradition has continued since that day, stated, "Today, Kurdish press is highlighted, the journalists who inherited this tradition, the press martyrs are commemorated and it is emphasized that this journey in the footsteps of the truth will continue."

"We will fulfill the responsibility to follow the truth"

The following statements were made in the rest of the statement: "Even though massacres, disappearances, censorship, detention, arrest and many other repressions have continued in the history of the Kurdish press from yesterday to today, Kurdish journalism has rewritten the history of journalism by not taking a step back against it. Despite the allegiance of "newspapers" and "journalism", the Kurdish press has always shown its determination to continue "journalism of the truth". We, as Kurdish women journalists, will fulfill the responsibility of following the truth imposed on us by this tradition, we will not leave our pens to the monopoly of the government, and we will continue our way with our claim to make the 21st century age of women's freedom."

We are moving forward with determination to give a new impetus to the Kurdish women's press, from the place left by the Gurbet, Deniz and Nujiyan, who shed light our way with their efforts. We congratulate the day of all our friends who devoted their hearts and efforts to the Kurdish press."
