ANKARA - HDP Group Deputy Chairpersons, who wanted to investigate the truths about those who lost their lives during the Kobanê protests, said: “HDP Delegation held meetings at the Ministry of Interior for 48 hours to stop the provocations. During these meetings, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the time said to the HDP Delegation that "there are forces within the security forces that we cannot control."
Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Group Deputy Chairpersons Meral Danış Beştaş and Saruhan Oluç submitted a written motion to the Assembly Presidency to establish a Research Commission to investigate the truth about the deaths experienced during the Kobanê protests.
'There are powers that we cannot control'
The written motion, which reminded the increasing ISIS attacks in Kobanê in 2014, included the sensitivity calls made by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) regarding what happened. In Turkey, it was stated that there were no deaths or injuries in the demonstrations that started in September and lasted until the first week of October. In the motion, mentioned: "After President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statement "Kobani is falling" during the rally held in Antep on October 7, 25-year-old Hakan Buksur lost his life as a result of the police intervention against the protesters in Muş’s Varto district. In the next three days, deaths and violence increased in the protests, 43 people lost their lives. During that period, HDP Delegation held meetings at the Ministry of Interior for 48 hours to stop the provocations. During these meetings, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the time told the HDP Delegation "There are forces within the security forces that we cannot control". However, not a single investigation was conducted regarding these "uncontrollable forces" after the events. This situation also prevented the fate of the deaths to be revealed."
'It is essential to establish a research commission'
It was emphasized that the investigations opened after the deaths during the Kobanê protests remained on the shelves and the perpetrators of the murdered protesters were not revealed despite the past 7 years, and said, “Except for a few cases that the government handled symbolically, there was little or no progress in all other cases. Within this framework, it is essential to establish a research commission to enlighten all the events in that process, to reveal the facts and to find the perpetrators."
