NEWS CENTER - The hunger strike launched against the aggravated isolation against PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan and the violations of rights in prisons is on its 167th day.

 

The hunger strike launched by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) prisoners on November 27, 2020, demanding the lifting of the aggravated isolation imposed on PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is being held in İmralı F-Type High-Security Closed Prison, and an end to the increasing violations of rights in prisons, continues. The indefinite-alternating hunger strike has entered its 167th day. The 34th group continues the action.

 

Between the May 4-10, the representatives of the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) Istanbul branch, Human Rights Association (İHD) Istanbul branch, Contemporary Lawyers’ Association (ÇHD) Istanbul branch, Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV), Marmara Association for Solidarity with Prisoner and Convict Families (MA-TUHAYDER), and the Istanbul branch of the Trade Union of Employees in Public Health and Social Services (SES) visited prisons in the Marmara Region with the name of the Hunger Strike Monitoring Delegation. After the visits, the delegation shared the information that 612 prisoners are on hunger strike in approximately 12 prisons and called on the Ministry of Justice to meet the demands as soon as possible.

 

146th day in Maxmur

 

Yesterday, the 74th group took over the hunger strike initiated by the Ishtar Council in the Martyr Rüstem Cudi Refugee Camp in Maxmur to draw attention to the demands of the prisoners on hunger strike in prisons in Turkey and the region. The action is on its 146th day today.

 

Hunger strike in Greece on its 129th day

 

The indefinite-alternating hunger strike launched in Lavrio Camp in Greece to support the prisoners on hunger strike continues on its 129th day. The hunger strike in the camp is led by the Revolutionary Youth Movement (Tevgera Ciwanên Şoreşger), the European Kurdish Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Kurdistan a Ewropa) and Kurdish Cultural Center (Navenda Çanda Kurdistan).
