ISTANBUL - PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers made a new application to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to interview with their clients.
Faik Özgür Erol, Raziye Öztürk, Rezan Sarıca and Cengiz Yürekli, the lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, applied to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to interview with their clients.
Applications left unanswered
Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office imposed a six-month lawyer visitation ban on September 23, 2020, on the grounds of the "Road Map" prepared in addition to Abdullah Öcalan's defense sent to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2009. Although the visitation ban ended on March 23, neither a positive nor a negative response is given to the applications made by the lawyers.
New disciplinary punishment
On the other hand, his lawyers stated that Abdullah Öcalan was given a new disciplinary punishment as of January, and they learned this only in March.
Rezan Sarıca and Newroz Uysal, lawyers of Abdullah Öcalan, were able to interview with their clients after eight years on 2-22 May, 12-18 June, and August 7, 2019.
Phone call was interrupted on March 25
Abdullah Öcalan, who has been kept under isolation conditions in İmralı for 22 years, first took advantage of the right to talk on the phone on April 27, 2020. As public concerns about the life of the PKK leader grew on social media, on March 25, Abdullah Öcalan talked to his brother Mehmet Öcalan again on the phone, and the conversation was interrupted after a short while.
