ISTANBUL - Lawyers of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan applied to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, requesting a meeting with their client.

Lawyers of Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan; Nevroz Uysal, İbrahim Bilmez, Mazlum Dinç and Serbay Köklü, applied to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, requesting a meeting with their client.

The Chief Prosecutor’s Office imposed a six-month meeting ban on September 23, 2020, on the grounds of the ‘’Road Map’’ prepared by Abdullah Öcalan in addition to his defense submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2009. Lawyers, whose applications for meeting were left inconclusive based on this decision, learned that Abdullah Öcalan was given a new disciplinary punishment last January. However, despite the expiry of this ban on March 23, no positive or negative response is given to the applications made by the lawyers.

Last lawyer meeting was in 2019

Rezan Sarıca and Nevroz Uysal, two of Abdullah Öcalan’s lawyers, last met with their client on May 2-22, June 12-18 and August 7, 2019, after eight years.

Last heard on March 25

Abdullah Öcalan, who has been held under severe isolation conditions in Imralı Prison for 22 years, was given the right to make phone call for the first time on April 27, 2020. Abdullah Öcalan was once again made to talk to his brother Mehmet Öcalan over the phone on March 25, due to the growing public concerns about him. Mehmet Öcalan announced that this conversation was interrupted.
