ISTANBUL - This year’s winner of the ‘’2021 Hrant Dink Awards’’, which is held every year on Hrant Dink’s birthday, was Canan Arın, one of the founders of the Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation.
The 13th International ‘’2021 Hrant Dink Awards’’, which is held annually in memory of Hrant Dink, the Chief Editor of Agos Newspaper, who was killed on January 19, 2007, found their owners with an online ceremony yesterday.
The award ceremony, hosted by Defne Kayalar in Turkish and by Esra Dermancıoğlu in English, and supported by Mahir Günşiray’s voice, was presented at the Hrant Dink Place of Memory this year.
The winners of this year’s award were Lawyer Canan Arın, one of the pioneers in the fight against violence against women in Turkey, one of the founders of the Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation, and Maria Ressa, an investigative journalist who defended press freedom in the Philippines under difficult political conditions and high personal risks.
Noting that wanting to live humanely in Turkey is a ‘’great luxury’’, Canan said: ‘’The only thing that feel relieved and encourages people in such a monstrosity and terrible picture is women’s resistance and solidarity!’’
