NEWS CENTER - Women to whom we hand the microphone on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the establishment of Jinnews, said that it is extremely important to increase the number of media outlets with women journalism, such as Jinnews, against the sexist language in the media. The women said: ‘’JINNEWS, glad to have you’’.

 

Our agency, Jinnews, which started broadcasting on September 25, 2017 with the slogan ‘’On the path to truth, with women’s pen’’, celebrates its 4th anniversary. As we welcome our 4th year with the excitement of the years we have spent with women, on this occasion, we handed our microphone to women for our agency.

 

Peace Mother Perihan Akbulut: We are celebrating the 4th anniversary of JINNEWS. Firsts in the world because they are all women. As mothers, we feel more comfortable with them.  

 

Laboratory technician Gülay Akgül: In a process where women are exposed to all kinds of violence, the presence of JINNEWS gives women confidence. The way to further increase this trust is through women's solidarity. The fact that all employees are women makes JINNEWS much more important to us. The fact that Jinnews is an agency that closely monitors women, knows and understands their problems creates great confidence in us. Organizations that see women’s struggle should increase so that the patriarchal culture can be moved away.

 

‘Its presence makes me proud’

 

Student Menal Ayırtman: I am proud that JINNEWS exists. Because as a student and a young woman, I am very happy that there is an agency that hears my voice and stands by me when I am exposed to violence. I feel safe. As we know, many women are killed every day. Many women are worried that they may be killed at any moment. Thank you JINNEWS for being our voice. I am happy, I feel peaceful and safe. I wish JINNEWS many more years.

The unity and solidarity of women will end all violence. JINNEWS is an example of this. I congratulate them for their sensitive, women-oriented publications. I hope such organizations will increase. Ebru Günay: First of all, we are celebrating its fourth year. We are glad that we have JINNEWS. In fact, we are going through a period in which censorship, oppression and free journalism are faced with oppression and persecution, detentions and arrests in the field of media. We are passing through times when the truth is tried to be darkened. When it comes to news about women, it is much sharper. In other words, women’s journalism has a much more important and special meaning, especially when the truth about women is tried to be hidden, femicides are tried to be hidden, and the perpetrators are tried to be protected. We would like to express our special thanks to JINNEWS for expressing the truth about women together with the freedom of press and making the voice of women and women’s journalism heard everywhere. A news agency that speaks the truth and speaks more strongly about women. Especially the fact that Kurdish women lead this means something much more important. Because Kurdish women, who actually broke new ground in the world in terms of women's gains, establishing a women's news agency actually brings a women's television broadcasting with them. The fact that JINNEWS is another voice and works in everywhere, continues to do journalism for us women as an alternative to the male language in the media, especially against the masculine male violence that is tried to be spread by the media, the masculine language being tried to spread in the society, and the policies against women.

 

Journalist Burcu Yıldırım: Happy 4th anniversary of Jinnews. JINNEWS’ 4th year is not only the 4th year of the agency, but also the 4th year of the women’s struggle. It’s been a huge step for all of us. In days when masculinity and male power are so dominant and violence increases so much, making news with a focus on women, making women’s voices heard, contributing to the solution of violence against women is also one of the elements of a great struggle. One of the most important things that women especially need lately is to have their voices heard, to have their voices united and to be able to take part freely in an equal life. One of the elements of this is brought to life by JINNEWS. At the same time, it shows all of us examples of women’s journalism in the region. Together with JINNEWS, we all hear about the violence in the region and the violence against women. It is also the voice and breath of the women here. Rather than just women’s voices, women living in any part of Turkey; It is a power that strengthens and unites the voices of those in the north, the west, the east, and the south are united and shared, where women experience the feeling of ‘I am not alone’. In these days when the masculine language is rising and provoked in every field, hate speech is increasing and violence is increasing, making news with a focus on women means stopping the bleeding wound of the whole society. It means to be the voice, word of women. We closely follow their very successful work in this field. I wish to travel together, walk the road and raise the voice of women for many more years.

 

IHD Co-chair Eren Keskin: For me, JINNEWS is a continuation of Gurbetelli Ersöz journalism. The increase of women journalists in our geography is very important, the increase of Kurdish women journalists is even more important. For this reason, perhaps a very important first for Kurdish women’s journalism. I find it very important. JINNEWS is doing women’s journalism. At the same time, it has a publishing approach that expresses the problems experienced by women in Kurdistan. There are obstacles to freedom of expression, but when it comes to JINNEWS, these obstacles increase. Unfortunately, Turkey is putting great obstacles in front of freedom of expression by acting against the international conventions it has signed. JINNEWS is experiencing the most of these obstacles. There is a sexist language in the media, so it is extremely important that media outlets such as Jinnews increase. We love JINNEWS, we want freedom for JINNEWS.

 

Bread and Rose editor Sevda Karaca: Dozens of access bans, pressures on reporters and employees, detentions, threats, journalism under the gun barrel of police-soldier, street violence, economic difficulties, insistence on doing the best journalism with scarce resources and tiny opportunities... While it is to be women’s voices, it is the first stop where tens of women journalists who say they can do it too learn the profession, grow and get stronger. If JINNEWS did not have this stubborn and resistance, examples of male and state violence, injustice, discrimination and inequality, especially in Kurdish provinces, would have been less visible. And despite all this, the effort and life stories of women, who continued to insist on reproducing life every day, would find much less space. We are celebrating the fourth year of JINNEWS as Bread and Rose, and we wish our sister publication JINNEWS many more years.

 

Dilek Başalan, Chairperson of Women’s Time Association: For me, for us, JINNEWS is the combination of women’s consciousness with journalism. We are faced with severe oppression, domination and violence against women in the geography and world we live in. But if the subject is the Kurdish woman, this harsh intervention and domination becomes even more harsh, and it can even turn into state violence under the name of a corporate identity, and we can see this in the press. There is a situation that we have paid more attention to in recent years: Kurdish women journalists are detained and arrested due to the news they make. While there is never any criminal action, they can be punished for their Kurdish identity and women identity, but this in no way discourages JINNEWS or Kurdish women journalists. Despite all the obstacles, they both run to the news of us and all women and bring our news to the whole public. JINNEWS, which is fed by its history and always feeds us, is glad we have it, we are glad we exist.
