NEWS CENTER - Women who made a statement in the cities regarding the punishment given to TJA Term Spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan said, ‘’We do not accept the punishment given to Ayşe Gökkan. We, like Ayşe, will not go anywhere and continue our struggle on this lands’’.
TJA activists made press releases in the cities of the region against the 30 years sentence given to Free Women’s Movement (TJA) Term Spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan in Diyarbakır. In the statements attended by many women, it was emphasized that the prison sentence targeted the Kurdish women’s struggle, and promised to expand the struggle against these attacks.
Diyarbakır
TJA activists made a statement for Ayşe Gökkan at the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Provincial Building in Diyarbakır’s Bağlar district. In the statement, ‘’We are woman, we are Kurd, we are here’’ and ‘’Jin jiyan azadi’’ banners were unfurled. Speaking on behalf of TJA, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun said, ‘’Our friend Ayşe Gökkan was continuing her struggle against injustice, lawlessness, sexism and racism. Ayşe has been involved in women’s studies under difficult conditions for years. With the punishment they gave Ayşe, they tried to suppress the struggle of women. With their punishments, they target women like Ayşe Gökkan and Leyla Güven who struggle and want freedom. As far as we can see, the court does not decide on its own. They have been taking orders for years. They are trying to break the will of women by arresting Kurdish women. We do not accept the decisions made’’.
‘We will continue to struggle’
Remziye, who underlined that Kurdish women are wanted to be silenced through special war policies, said, ‘’Ayşe stated in her statement that she would not go anywhere and that she would continue her struggle here. Like Ayşe, we will not go anywhere and continue our struggle on this lands. We, as Kurdish women, will continue to struggle to bring peace, democracy and equality to our country. We call on all women here to not accept the punishment given to Ayşe Gökkan and to react with a strong attitude. As TJA members, we will not accept this attitude, we will continue our struggle’’.
The statement ended with the slogans ‘’Jin jiyan azadi’’.
Şırnak
In Şırnak, TJA components made a press release at the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Provincial Building against the punishment given to Ayşe Gökkan. HDP Diyarbakır MP Dersim Dağ, members of the Peace Mothers Council, HDP provincial and district organizations and many people attended the statement, and the banner ‘’Ayşe Gökkan is not alone, our women’s struggle cannot be put on trial’’ was unfurled.
‘She did not bow down’
Speaking in a statement, Dersim Dağ condemned the sentence given to Ayşe Gökkan and stated that it was not the first attack on women’s struggle. Expressing that there is a punishment and attack against women’s struggle in the person of Ayşe, Dersim said, ‘’Ayşe Gökkan was detained and arrested 83 times and many lawsuits were filed against her. She was imprisoned for years. However, she did not bow down to the male-dominated mentality and continued the struggle for women’s freedom. The 30 years punishment given to Ayşe Gökkan is directed towards the Kurdish and women’s struggle in the person of her. From Gültan Kışanak and Aysel Tuğluk to Ayşe Gökkan, women did not bow down to the legal games of the government’’.
‘We will walk with thousands of Ayşe Gökkan’
Noting that they did not recognize the punishment given, Dersim said, ‘’Our struggle for freedom will continue until the end. This unlawfulness cannot stop us from our struggle. We will strengthen our struggle. We will be on the path of Ayşe Gökkan, Gültan Kışanak and Aysel Tuğluk. No obstacle can prevent our struggle. We do not recognize the decisions of the courts. Our struggle against the attacks against women will continue. As Ayşe Gökkan said, we are Kurds, we are here and we will always be in the fields. Our struggle for women’s liberation will continue. Our struggle will continue with thousands walking in Ayşe Gökkan's path’’.
The statement ended with the slogans ‘’Jin jiyan azadi’’.
