On November 4, 2016, a ‘’political coup’’ was made against the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) and Kurdish politicians. In the political coup, nine politicians, including HDP’s former Co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ, were arrested.

 

Many elected politicians, including the former Co-chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Figen Yüksekdağ, were detained as a result of the political coup. Figen, who was taken into custody by breaking the door of her house, said ‘’continue to be resistant’’ in the message she sent while in custody. In the first leg of the political coup, Figen Yüksekdağ, Selahattin Demirtaş, Nursel Aydoğan, Gülser Yıldırım, Selma Irmak, Leyla Birlik, İdris Baluken, Abdullah Zeydan and Ferhat Encü were arrested.
