AMED - Green Left Party deputy Zeynep Oduncu drew attention to the worsening isolation imposed on PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan and underlined that the reason for all the crises in Turkey is the isolation in İmralı.

 

PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan has been kept under aggravated isolation in İmralı since February 15, 1999, and there has been no news for more than 30 months. While the applications made by the lawyers and the family are blocked with the claim of "disciplinary" punishment, many applications are not answered. Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party) Êlih (Batman) Deputy Zeynep Oduncu made an evaluation about the deepening isolation and its reflections on society.

 

'We cannot talk about democracy'

 

Saying that Turkey is currently in a state of decay, Zeynep touched upon the meetings held with PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan between 2013 and 2015. Zeynep said, “During the peace talks initiated as a solution process, Turkey was in a very serious state of breath. This spread to society in every sense, gave peace and promised economic hope. During the negotiations, the guns fell silent and hope grew in everyone. The peace process was undermined due to the state's insistence on war, not giving up on the government's war policies. In other words, the overthrow of an existing peace process and an existing table was a move towards the end of democracy. We cannot currently talk about democracy and the understanding of democracy in Turkey. So we see that democracy is over. Because we are going through periods where there is no law in the state and the judiciary operates entirely politically."

 

'There is an unlawfulness that spreads everywhere'

 

Zeynep pointed out that the insolubility of the Kurdish problem is at the root of all the existing crises in Turkey and added, "We are experiencing processes in which the demands of the Kurdish people in Turkey are not discussed, not talked about, and ignored. And the biggest reason for the current crises in Turkey is the isolation imposed in all prisons in İmralı, in the person of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. In other words, there is no isolation only in İmralı; today it has spread to all prisons. Unfortunately, we receive news of deaths from prisons every day, sick prisoners whose executions are being burned, and the Kobanê conspiracy case, a process of lawlessness that has spread to all of them. And the starting point for this is the isolation imposed in İmralı. If the isolation imposed on Imrali is lifted and negotiations are started again with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, who is the address of the solution, we believe that the atmosphere of peace in the 2013-2015 period, that atmosphere of peace in Kurdistan, can come again."

 

'Imrali gate of hope'

 

Finally, Zeynep said, “The only reason why bar associations, lawyers, our co-chairs and our requests for a meeting regarding the isolation in İmralı were not met is the fact that the government feeds on chaos. Now the point they have reached is the final point. Because they left Turkey in the middle of a huge crisis and they are aware of what they left behind. We have a call from here again: negotiations need to start as soon as possible. "The door of hope for the people of Kurdistan and Turkey is in İmralı."
