ÊLIH - Emphasising the struggle against special war policies, TJA activist Havva Can said, "We will do whatever it takes against special war, femicide and violence against women. We must protect the future of our children and our society. We must raise a strong voice against this war."

Violence against women and femicide continue systematically within the framework of special war policies. Especially the impunity policies implemented during the AKP-MHP government led to an increase in male violence. Laws aimed at protecting women and children were turned into a bargaining chip in the alliance of parties such as AKP-MHP, HUDA-PAR and Yeniden Refah Party. While this alliance means a direct attack on women's rights, women's resistance and struggle against these attacks continues.

From Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) activist Havva Can made evaluations on the issue.

‘They want to silence women’

Havva started her speech by drawing attention to the purpose of attacks and massacres against women and said, "The purpose of attacks and murders against women is to silence the voice of women. It is to suppress women who raise their voices against feudalism and the system. They want to silence women who do not accept violence. The resistance against this situation means protecting women and children."

‘The only thing women have left is self-defence’

Emphasising that women should defend themselves, Havva continued as follows "The male mentality continues to attack women. Although we are in the 21st century, there are still no effective laws to protect women and children. Rights for women and children are not recognised and the patriarchal mentality does not change. Therefore, the only thing women have left is self-defence. The patriarchal mentality only wants women to stay at home and look after children. Therefore, self-defence is the only way for women to make their voices heard in society."

‘Special war policies target women’

Havva also drew attention to the special war policies and stated the following: "The promise of ‘never again’ paved the way for the murders of women. We witnessed the murders of Narin Guran and Rojin Kabais. Thousands of women have been murdered in this country, but no deterrent measures were taken for men. All these events are linked to special war policies. These policies primarily target women; they impose drugs and prostitution. Currently, the age of drug use has dropped to 10, which is a great danger. In Hakkari, we saw women being forced into prostitution. This system wants to remove women from society."

‘We will do whatever it takes against the special war’

Noting that they should always raise a strong voice against special war policies, Havva said, "Women's suicides have increased in Batman. These suicides are not a coincidence. Special war policies have left our youth helpless. Young people see despair in suicide. However, as Kurdish women, we will never accept this situation. We will do whatever it takes against the special war, femicides and the increase in violence against women. We must protect the future of our children and our society. We must raise a strong voice against this war."
