ANKARA - Reactions to the Iranian regime's execution policies against Kurdish women politicians are increasing. DEM Party Ankara Women's Assembly Spokesperson Nebahat Çalpan emphasised the necessity of joint struggle against the death sentences of political prisoners Pexşan Ezîzî and Werîşe Muradî, saying ‘Our philosophy of Jin Jiyan Azadî is our rebellion against the world-dominant mentality’ and underlined the importance of women's solidarity.
Reactions against the death sentences given by the Iranian regime to political prisoners Pexşan Ezîzî and Werîşe Muradî are increasing. In Rojhilat, a general strike has been decided to be held tomorrow under the leadership of 6 political parties and organisations against the death sentences. While the calls of international human rights organisations to stop these sentences remain inconclusive, reactions continue to grow. Another reaction on the issue came from the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).
DEM Party Ankara Women's Assembly Spokesperson Nebahat Çalpan evaluated the execution policies of Iran against Kurdish women politicians.
The misogynist complicity of interstate law
Stating that the regime has turned this into a form of governance by resorting to violence, destruction and execution against Kurds, especially young people, Nebahat Çalpan reminded that 5-10 Kurds are executed almost every day in the country and their bodies are delivered to their families. Nebahat Çalpan said, "We see the stories of Kurdish women detained by the Iranian state and sentenced to death. Since Jina Amini, the regime's oppression and annihilation policy on women has been increasing day by day. The systematic violence against women and condemnation to death has become a process that has spread to Kurdish activists such as Zeynep Jalaliyan, Werişe Muradiye, Pexşan Ezîzî. This shows that there is no inter-state legal process against Iran's inhumane and unlawful practices. Neither the media in the Middle East, Europe, nor Turkey remain insensitive to this unlawful process of Iran and do not intervene in any way.
The borders of the Earth are being tampered with
But when we look at it, borders are being redrawn in the Middle East, the borders of the globe are being played with. Imperialist states feel the need to intervene immediately when there is a situation related to borders. But when it comes to the Middle East, there is not even an intervention between states regarding the murders of women and the sentencing of Kurdish women to death. It is as if they are playing blind, deaf and dumb. What we understand is the evidence that a misogynist policy is also portrayed in inter-state law."
‘An offence against women's struggle’
Stating that the Iranian government carries out massacres by the state and tries to legitimise these massacres by targeting women's struggle for rights, Nebahat Çalpan said, "The fact that all media organs remain so insensitive and silent reveals that national law also sees women in a very narrow framework. Especially in 2024, many Kurdish activist women were sentenced to death. We are talking about a humanitarian situation here. The state of silence against this crime clearly shows the tendency to be complicit in the crime. This crime against the women's struggle should also be considered as an attack on sovereignty. All of these women friends are seen as the fighters of the struggle and this represents a philosophy that will cause social turmoil. Naturally, the easiest method is murder, and the Iranian regime registers these crimes with death sentences."
‘Death sentences against Jin Jiyan Azadi’
Referring to the importance of Jin Jiyan Azadî philosophy in the Middle East, Nebahat Çalpan stated the following ‘The philosophy of Jin Jiyan Azadî has started to turn into a slogan that gives direction to the world women's struggle and shows the way and method. The male-dominated mentality, which aims to design the whole world, especially the Middle East, and seeks an exit from the deepening crises, has started to collide with women's rebellions. In other words, we see the male-dominated mentality trying to rise again in the face of the birth of a rebellion with the philosophy of Jin Jiyan Azadî. This uprising in Iran and the slogan that developed within this philosophy became the voice of resistance and struggle all over the world. The intensification of male state violence against women shows how disturbed they are by this voice and this rebellion. The male-dominated mentality naturally started to build a new mentality in the face of this struggle.
Pexşan Ezîzî: We pay the price for the construction of a free life
Even in Turkey, the philosophy of ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ itself was labelled as terrorist propaganda. The banning by the Diyarbakır Governorate is actually an indication that it is disconnected from the internationalist women's struggle, which is strengthened by these attacks. In the face of this struggle, it clearly reveals that the male-dominated mentality will definitely be destroyed and broken. We also see this reflected in prisons. Pexşan Ezîzî had a sentence that she expressed through her letters: "Şerife Muhammed, myself and other women waiting for their turn to be executed are paying the price here for the construction of a free life. As women, we will neither be the first nor the last. Freedom is not something easily won, of course; a price had to be paid and we determine this price by integrating the philosophy of Jin Jiyan Azadî.'
This sentence represents a tremendous summary to understand faith and a determined stance. With this decision, all women demonstrate solidarity and the will to be together. Our women comrades continue this struggle with the strength they receive from their fellow women."
