ISTANBUL - Speaking about Jinerjî Fanzin, the first issue of which was published with the slogan ‘Resistance is the legacy of free women’ with the collective labour of Young Women, Güldestan İğin said that with their work, they will address and reveal the facts that are turned inside out and hidden by the male-dominated mentality with a female perspective and colour.
Young Women published the first issue of Jinerjî Fanzin on 8 March International Women's Day with the slogan ‘Resistance is the legacy of free women’. The subject of the first issue of Jinerjî Fanzin, where every woman can express herself, read and write, is ‘Concepts and Women’. Jinerjî Fanzin is based on a strong line of struggle of women against the male-dominated system and a woman-centred perspective. The issue includes concepts such as life, xwebûn, ecology, liberalism, culture, faith, freedom, as well as poetry, painting, book and film recommendations. The work, which is the product of the collective labour of young women, will continue.
Güldestan İğin, one of the Young Women, spoke about the Jinerjî Fanzine.
Starting her speech on 8 March by stating that the first issue of Jinerjî Fanzine was published, Güldestan İğin said that the basis of the work is a female perspective. Güldestan İğin said, "We want to reveal the facts that are turned inside out, whitewashed and hidden by the male-dominated mentality with a female colour and perspective. At this point, the first issue of Jinerjî Fanzin is about women and concepts. It is necessary to talk about concepts in order to grasp something and to reach its meaning. Concepts are the cornerstone of the mental development and memory of society. Without this, social activities cannot be built in any way. The content of Jinerjî Fanzin includes articles on life, xwebûn, ecology, liberalism, culture, faith and freedom. We also have poems, book and film recommendations and pictures. We have reconsidered these concepts with the idea and perspective of women."
There will be a continuation of the fanzine work
Expressing why they need Jinerjî Fanzine, Güldestan İğin said, "We know that we are under the bombardment and attack of the male-dominated system 7-24 in every field, in every field of life. It tries to detach us from our identity and social reality. And on this basis, it increases its attacks. At this very point, we young women, who are the pioneers of social truth, have a great responsibility and duty. It is imperative for us to create a stronger women's organisation and to sustain it. At this point, we made a fanzine. It contains articles written by women from different places. At the same time, women need to know that there are women resisting where they are and this gives strength. This is both a morale booster for women and helps them support each other on the basis of organisation, continuity and a strong struggle. It is also encouraging. This is one of the reasons for publishing the fanzine. The work will continue in the following processes. It is a work in which young women reflect their own colour and voice. We want Jinerjî Fanzine to reach all young women and carry it to wider areas. Our fanzine was published for this purpose. It will continue and we will promote each issue."
‘Resistance is the compass of women’
Güldestan İğin, who shared that women's identity has been the pioneer of social truth in all areas of life from past to present, said the following ‘Currently, women's struggle, colour and perspective have come to life all over the world with the philosophy of ‘Jin jiyan azadî’. For 5 thousand years, the male-dominated mentality and institutions have wanted to target the natural leadership of women, the side that regulates-disciplines life, the carrier of culture and tradition from the past to the future and the main power of the moral political society, that is, their role and goals in every dimension of life, and they do not leave any dirty methods to be used. And on this basis, women are tried to be de-identified. However, we young women, by taking the legacy of resistance as a motto, will further raise the women's struggle with the endeavour and consciousness of responding to such a critical and historical process in which women's struggle and consciousness is rising and spreading everywhere, and with the slogan ‘Resistance is the compass of free women’. On this basis, we launched Jierjî Fanzin, where every woman can find herself, discuss, read and write, with great excitement and enthusiasm. Historically and in today's context, it was published on 8 March, the symbol and spirit of women's resistance. At this point, we call on every woman, especially young women, to contact us in order to further increase our resistance. We will organise the women's struggle from campuses to streets, homes and workplaces with our words, pens and actions, and we will carry our voice and colour everywhere.’
‘Women produce together’
Emphasising that Jinerjî Fanzine is a communal work, Güldestan İğin stated that women from many places contributed to the content of this work and that they realised it in this way. Güldestan İğin said, ‘Women produce the content of Jinerjî Fanzin together. Women do both content production, distribution and dissemination in a communal way. The Jinerjî Fanzine work aroused excitement in every woman we reached. When women submit their content and suggestions, this is a great source of morale for us. We also find this valuable in terms of continuity. This work will be a continuous work. At this point, every young woman to whom we deliver the fanzine returns to us. We will advance our work within the framework of the suggestions received within the scope of this study. We will both have articles on the agenda and we will continue our work by evaluating the subject suggestions we receive. At this point, we call on all young women to send us their stories, pictures, poems and writings. Our aim is to produce stronger content together with women and to spread the struggle to a wider area.’
‘Resistance is the compass of free women’
Güldestan İğin concluded her speech with the following words: ‘In our next issue, which will be enriched with the pen of young women, all women can reach us through our virtual media accounts if they have suggestions and articles. Resistance is the compass of free women.’
