NEWS CENTRE- Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who sent a message to Jineoloji, recalled his words ‘My women's work is an unfinished project’ when he was first brought to İmralı island, and stated that he had completed his work and all that remained was to realise it, and said “I developed the ‘principle of hope’ for women.”
Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan sent a message to Jineoloji on 30 May. Abdullah Öcalan also sent the flower grown in his ventilation room as a gift to Jineoloji together with his letter.
Abdullah Öcalan's message is as follows;
“Since my childhood I have endeavoured to be the best friend and comrade of women. Even in my relationship with my mother my search for free women can be seen. When I was first brought to İmralı Island, I said, ‘My women's work is an unfinished project.’ This work is now complete and all that remains is to realise it. The women's liberation struggle has created a very important legacy. This heritage has come to this day through thousands of martyrs and has created an important value. It should be known that I have always wanted women to live and be kept alive and every loss of them has always caused me pain.
They called me ‘the son of the goddess’. I always wanted to be a son worthy of women and this was my main principle of struggle. I developed the ‘principle of hope’ for women. I said that every woman must be liberated. As a man, I educated myself with ethical and aesthetic criteria shaped in the measure of freedom. I said that the basic principle of socialism is women's freedom. The measure of a man being a socialist is that he knows how to live rightly with women. This is the basic principle of socialism. This principle has always been missing in socialist experiences throughout history. If the relationship of all pioneering leaders from Marx to Stalin, from Mao to Lenin, with women is analysed well, this truth will be better understood.
My unfinished project has also progressed with Jineoloji. With this theory and concept, I wanted to define the women's problem correctly. As Buddha said; ‘You cannot do anything without removing the dagger from the back of society.’ Yes, society has many problems, but the dagger in the back is female slavery, and you cannot solve any problem without removing this dagger. Jineoloji has made significant progress towards this goal. A valuable labour has been spent. Now this labour should gain more meaning with the new process. The correct definition of women's existence and women's identity and existence must be handled with the method of identity.
As Simon says; ‘one is not born a woman, one becomes a woman.’ The constructed female identity must be purified from sexist elements. Women should concentrate on this. Just like V.Woolf says; a woman should have a room of her own. Women should be able to think about themselves and build themselves. I say this knowing how difficult it is to be a woman. It is difficult for a woman to build herself freely while living under the constant rape culture of men. But I don't know if women feel this burning truth as painfully and angrily as I do. With this anger, I renew myself intellectually every day, produce solutions and live so that women can live free. This is how the meaning of life becomes a reality for me.
Feminists have been questioning why there is a man at the head of the Kurdish women's movement. They are right, I wish women could take the lead. Unfortunately, this leadership has not yet emerged either outside the Kurdish movement or in general. I have always produced projects and theories on how a free woman should be; I have developed the ideology of women's liberation and Jineoloji, and made it an organised force. I have worked and strived to transform men and liberate women and society. I have done this in order to be a son worthy of the goddesses. I expect them to understand me correctly with this fact.
I know that women will lead the process of ‘peace and democracy’ that we are trying to develop. They are responsible for more than half of the successes achieved so far. I believe that they will lead the way in the future and I say that I will continue to live with you and be with you as much as you need me.”
