Women gather in front of the Parliament in Ankara to protest draft bill

ANKARA – Women have gathered in front of the building of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, they will make a statement.
Women saying “These laws cannot be passed like this for an equal and free life” have gathered in front of the building of the Turkish Grand National Assembly against draft bills giving muftis or religious official authorities to perform marriages and encouraging violence against women. Tens of women, including Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş, Republican People's Party (CHP) MPs Şenal Saruhan and Aylin Nazlıaka, wanted to make a statement in front of the building; however, police didn’t allow them. Women entered the Assembly to make a statement.
