MARDİN - “As women, we are aware of what is going on but we will not bow down. We will resist and take to the streets to the end,” said Hülya Kılıç, Chairperson of Tümbel-Sen No.1 Branch in Ankara.
Women’s struggle and solidarity give the most powerful answer to the AKP government, which votes a draft bill into law almost every month in order to erase the women from the street and from life. Union of All Municipality Civil Servants (Tümbel-Sen) Ankara No.1 Branch Chairperson Hülya Kılıç commented on the government’s misogyny that takes the women away from working life with dismissal, imprisons them in houses and legitimates child marriages under the name of “muftis’ draft bill”.
‘We will stop’
Saying that the AKP’s attacks on women become systematics, Hülya recalled the women’s action outside of the Parliament in Ankara to protest the government’s policies, “The women were dragged on the ground, and tear gas was used against them. We carried our reaction to there. We are aware of the realities behind of this. This is the advanced level of the reactionary policies in order to imprison the women in houses and to prevent them from going out. I believe in that we will stop the policies by raising the awareness of the public.”
‘Women keep standing up in solidarity’
Stating that the women keep standing up in solidarity against, Hülya emphasized that more than 200 people had been dismissed from their duties in Ankara by emergency decree issued under the state of emergency. “Most of dismissed people are women,” said Hülya and she stated that the dismissed women have formed a solidarity network, “Women stand by themselves instead of being alone. We will not keep silent against draft bills like muftis’ draft bill. As women, we know very well the target of these draft bills. For this reason, we will keep our resistance and we will not bow down to the government’s draft bills.”
