Thousands of trees cut down in Besta region

ŞIRNAK - Cutting of trees in Besta region is going on under the name of “security”. The cut trees are used as fuel woods in the military bases and in the houses of the village guards.
 
Thousands of trees have been cut down in Besta region of Şırnak province for months. Cutting of trees in Bişiyê Reş, Gêloşî and Milê Sinê regions located between Şenoba town of Uludere district and Balveren town of Şırnak city center is going on under the name of “security”. The trees have been cut down particularly near military bases by village guards and the woods have been collected a place near the Besta Commando Battalion Command.

The cut walnuts, peanuts, apples, pears, plums and turpentine trees have been carried to a place near police station by tractors. The cut trees have been used as fuel woods by village guards and military bases in the region.
 
Months ago, some citizens in Balveren town collected signatures to stop the cutting of trees and applied to the Forestry Operation Directorate in Şırnak but they got no result.
