She jailed for 2 years for not leaving her house: Speak out for us

MARDİN - The hearing of 50 people jailed after the declaration of self-governance in Mardin’s Nusaybin district will be held today. A mother-of-five Nurşan Demir, who was jailed after being tortured for not leaving her house, faces a life imprisonment. Nurşan expressing that she has been held in prison although she is innocent calls on public opinion to show awareness.
 
The hearing of 50 people jailed after the declaration of self-governance in Mardin’s Nusaybin district and face life imprisonment will be held today. On January 9, the hearing of 17 children, who have been accused by the same accusation, was held closed to the press and the two-day hearing was postponed to April 10.  The hearing of jailed 50 people will be held at the conference hall of the Social Security Institution in Mardin province. 50 people have been accused of “disrupting the state unity, territorial integrity of the country” and they have faced life imprisonment. Some prisoners will attend the hearing unknown how many days it will take through the IT Voice and Image System (SEGBİS).
 
Most of the prisoners (50 people), who bore testimony under torture after they left the house during the clashes in the district, were subjected to pressures. A mother-of-five Nurşan Demir (45) is one of these people has faced a life imprisonment. Nurşan didn’t leave her house in Fırat Neighborhood and she had to take shelter in a basement when the clashes became intensified. She was subjected to torture after taking by police and she was sent to Mardin E-type Closed Prison after bearing testimony under torture.
 
‘I have been jailed although I am innocent’
 
Nurşan has been held in prison for two years due to her testimony given under torture. She sent a message through her family and she called on the public opinion to show awareness for her hearing to be held today. Nurşan said, “I have been away from my children for months. I miss them too much. I was subjected to torture for not leaving my house and I am now here. I am considered guilty of not leaving my house. I have been jailed although I am innocent. The people should speak out and do something. They should support us. I don’t want to be away from my children anymore.”
