Jailed women activists in Iran on hunger strike

NEWS CENTER - Iranian artist-activist Atena Daemi and Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee have announced that they have launched a hunger strike today at 10:00 a.m.
 
On October 22, 2014, Iranian artist-activist Atena Daemi was taken into custody and she was sent to Evin Prison after being questioned for 80 days and she was sentenced to 14 years in prison on March, 2015 by Tehran’s Revolutionary Court. On September, 2015, her prison sentence was reduced to seven years by the Supreme Court of Tehran. On April 8, 2017, Atena launched a hunger strike against torture and maltreating in the prison and she ended her strike on May 31.
 
Atena, who is known for her cartoons on migration, war and for her aid efforts for the children of Kobanê and Gaza, has started a hunger strike to protest the torture and pressure in the prison. Being exiled to Gharchak Prison, Atena has announced that she has started a hunger strike today as of 10:00 a.m. along with Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee.
 
Golrokh Ebrahimi Iraee and her husband Arash Sadeghi were arrested on September 15, 2014 and she was sentenced to six years in prison by the Revolutionary Court on charges of “propagandizing against the regime,”
