Historic Armenian Theater in Derik pulled down by order of appointed trustee!

MARDİN - The trustee appointed to Derik Municipality ordered more than 100 buildings, including historic Armenian Theater, to be pulled down.
 
The trustee appointed to Derik Municipality ordered more than 100 buildings to be pulled down claiming the buildings were “used by drug users” and “abandoned”. Tens of historical buildings, including Armenian Theater, were pulled down.
 
30 houses pulled down in the last process
 
Until today, 45 houses in Kale Neighborhood, 20 houses in Cevizpınar Neighborhood and 18 houses in Küçükpınar Neighborhood have been demolished on the ground that “they were abandoned”. In the last process, about 30 houses were demolished in Zeytinpınar, Tepabağ and Dağ neighborhoods.

The trustee appointed to the municipality, Hakan Kafkas issued a statement and he said, “The municipalities are for serving the people but unfortunately the people of Derik couldn’t get the service they deserved from the municipality until now. The resources of the municipality were transferred to other places but now our people see how the real municipal works are done. Our works in both villages and districts are going on. We do our best for the people’s welfare and peace.”
 
Trees cut down
 
As the houses have been pulled down in the district, the nature is also destroyed. The trees in Ahmet Kaya Park were cut down for “renovation”.
