ANKARA - Ankara Governorate has sealed the Batıkent and Seyran Umut Branches of Halkevleri (People’s Houses) and Ethem Sarısülük Library. Four members of the Halkevleri have been detained.

 

Ankara Governorate has sealed the Batıkent and Seyran Umut Branches of Halkevleri (People’s Houses) and Ethem Sarısülük Library located in Mamak. According to received reports, officials of the Ankara Governorate went to the building of the braches and library and took photographs while searching the buildings. And then the officials sealed the Seyran Umut Branch of Halkevleri (People’s Houses), Ethem Sarısülük Library and Batıkent Halkevi’s class used for social and cultural activities for children for “performing unauthorized educational activities.”

 

Halkevelri’s four members, including the Central Executive Board member Nebiye Merttürk, were taken into custody while protesting the decision outside of the Seyran Umut Branch.
