Workers arrive at Taksim Square

ISTANBUL - Workers of Nakliyat-Iş Union and Turkey Metal Industrialists’ Union have arrived at Taksim Square despite all obstacles by police.
Workers of Nakliyat-Iş Union and Turkey Metal Industrialists’ Union gathered outside of the union building located in Aksaray in the morning to celebrate the International Workers’ Day at Taksim Square. Workers of Real Market and Umut Sendikası (Hope Union) also support the march and workers coming from Konya and Kocaeli have joined them. The workers chanted slogans such as “We’ll win by resisting”, “Our constitutional right cannot be prevented”, “Long live May 1”, “Democracy not state of emergency” and “Job, bread, freedom”. Then the workers began to march to Taksim Square. However the workers were stopped by police in front of the building of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Police told the workers, “Celebrate May 1 in park opposite the municipality. The people joining the march said, “We’ll march to Taksim”.
After discussing for a while, the mass made a statement in Saraçhane Park. After the statement, a group of workers got in cars and went to Taksim Square with police. The cars were stopped in Gümüşsuyu and the members of the group walked to Taksim Square from there.
Carnations left at Kazancı Ramp
The members of unions left carnations at Kazancı Ramp and then placed a wreath on Cumhuriyet Monument.
